Short Dress, Flat Shoes

DSC_0341

It appears that although my height (174cm) has it’s advantages, like having long legs, it also has its disadvantages, like look like a bean when wearing a short dress with heels. This has always been challenging for me as I usually feel incomplete going out for a night on the town wearing flats. But this weekend, I showcased my ‘short dress, flat shoes’ style and I must admit, I liked it. Heels will always have a place in my closet and ‘my style’, but I have come to the conclusion that heels just don’t work for me in conjunction with short dresses.

A little bit of Paradise

For the last two weeks I have been off soaking up the sun on a cruise of the beautiful pacific islands. No work, no phones and no internet. Just time to appreciate great company, great drinks and the little things that make life great.

Back to the normal schedule today and although my escape was amazing (boy was it amazing) It’s good to be back.

Hot or Not – Patterned Tights

For quite some time now I have been apprehensive about patterned tights. They sort of scared me. But when I saw these tights with gorgeous dashes of blue, black, green and pink I just had to buy them. They are so easy to style, throw on a black tee, dress or knit and you’re good to go. They’re quirky, colourful and a bit of fun. I’m quite a fan. My vote is HOT.

What do you think?

Concerts Love

Have you ever been to a concert that literally took your breath away, had the best time and realised at that moment that you were literally making a memory you would never forget? Last night was one of those moments for me. I was lucky enough to be at the front of Pink’s ‘Truth about Love’ Concert at Brisbane’s Entertainment Centre. It was a million kinds of amazing. Her interaction with the audience, the dancing, the acrobatics, the fireworks (yes fireworks), the displays and of course the incredible music. By far the best concert I have been to. The atmosphere was incredible. Did I mention the “pink love” cocktails? What a night!

What’s the best concert you have ever been to?

For the Love of Loafers

a

DSC_0250

I have never been a huge fan of any type of flat shoes unless they were thongs. Finding an ‘in-between’ shoe that I really liked wasn’t an easy task, that was until I found loafers. There’s not a lot I don’t love about them; their shape, texture, comfort and pretty much everything about them is right down my alley. I’m obsessed with a pair that I recently purchased from Portmans in Melbourne’s iconic Bourke St. I’m loving the mixture of their hairy (yep they’re hairy) and stud design. They’re perfect, exactly what I was looking for. Something stylish enough to add  some ‘value’ to my outfit but also low-key enough to not overpower my overall style. Loafers are my new favourite staple in my wardrobe.

I’m Loving:

  1. Plain back loafers from Miss Shop
  2. The studs on these Lipstik pair
  3. Gorgeous suede from The Mode Collection
  4. The colour from Pied a Terre
  5. Patterns from Walnut Melbourne
  6. Stylish quilted finish by Nina Armando

Limon a Turkish Delight

photo 1-27

Now that I really think about it, I have never really been adventurous with my food when it comes to dining out. Whenever we decide to eat out I always head for Italian, Asian and traditional Australian cuisine. Don’t get me wrong, I love the other cuisines, but find it particularly difficult to read the menu. Often my boss takes us out to a beautiful French restaurant seen here  (it’s her favourite cuisine) and understanding the menu is very difficult for me. Nevertheless I always love the meals, they always taste just divine. So in an attempt to be ‘more’ adventurous I tried Turkish and let’s just say I was impressed. Limon is located in Brisbane’s south-east suburb of Underwood and as I found, was a real hidden secret. The people were a lovely mix of Aussie and Turkish staff and chefs making it feel wonderfully comfortable. It also had a charming decor that matched very well. The light shades were gorgeous along with the art work, tablecloths and other unique and individual pieces. The menu was difficult, but I have now learnt to focus on the main items (meat and sauce) when ordering. The Moroccan Lamb with Cous Cous I ordered was delish and I left thinking why had I  never tried Turkish before. Restaurant one of project ‘be adventurous’ complete. Next up is Muooz, an African cuisine restaurant that my boss insists we try. Keep an eye out for the blog entry next week.

Bedazzled Keys

photo 2-8.PNG

I’ve always had a thing for large attention grabbing key rings to add a bit of beauty to your keys. Having stylish keys has always been a bit of a must for me and I always try to have something gorgeous on the ring to add that bit of glamour. So when I came across a way to bedazzle my keys I had to give it a go. The verdict: It was fun, easy and really gave the keys a gorgeous touch.  Everything needs a bit of glitter if you ask me.

photo 1-34

To do it yourself you will need – the key(s) you want to bedazzle and the nail polish, glitter and top coat colour of your choice.

How to

  1. clean off the key with warm water;
  2. choose where you want to paint (usually the top bubbly end) and put a piece of tape across (to get a nice straight line) I skipped this step, but if you would like a straight edge I recommend you tape it;
  3. choose your colour and paint one coat on one side of the key. Wait for it to dry (best to wait about an hour between each coat);
  4. repeat step three until you get the desired colour;
  5. leave to set (at least an hour);
  6. apply glitter polish to the area. repeat as needed. Leave to set for about 2 hours;
  7. apply the top coat and allow to dry overnight;
  8. repeat steps 2 to 7; and
  9. remove tape.
